“Breivik Copycat”: Student Planned Mass Attack on Immigrants in Espoo

It has been revealed that an attempted attack targeting immigrant students took place at a vocational school called Ammattiopisto Live in Espoo last September.

Although the police initially withheld information for several reasons, the details have now come to light following a court order.

Court details reveal that a former student attempted the attack to kill minorities. He was reportedly inspired by Norwegian terrorist and white supremacist Anders Breivik.

The District Court of Western Uusimaa issued an interim judgment regarding the incident. The prosecutor is demanding punishment for the preparation of an aggravated crime against life and health, along with two counts of attempted aggravated assault, reports YLE.

The Attack

On the morning of September 29, the defendant entered his former school carrying a 17-centimeter kitchen knife in his backpack. He went to a restroom, filmed himself holding the weapon, and then proceeded to a third-floor breakroom.

There, he attempted to stab two students of immigrant background. Fortunately, he missed his targets, and the victims managed to escape before staff members intervened and stopped him.

The court documents paint a disturbing picture of the attacker’s motivation. The night before the attack, he watched violent videos and material related to the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik.

He also wrote a manifesto declaring his intent to harm as many “immigrants, leftists, transsexuals, and homosexuals” as possible. He chose his former school as the target simply because he was familiar with the building and its schedules.

Security footage shows the man performing a Nazi salute before finally handing over his knife to the staff. When police arrived, he was sitting calmly in a classroom with a male teacher.

The court has ordered the defendant to undergo a mental health examination before the final sentencing.

Anders Breivik was a far-right terrorist who killed 77 people in Norway in 2011. Breivik has become a central figure for online far-right extremists, often inspiring “copycat” attacks across the globe.
