Man Vanishes with Luxury Mercedes During Test Drive in Lohja

A private car sale in southern Finland turned into a police investigation when a prospective buyer disappeared with a high-end convertible.

Western Uusimaa police are investigating a suspected aggravated theft after a thief posing as a buyer stole a luxury car during a test drive in Lohja on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when a private seller allowed the suspect to take the vehicle for a test drive.

The driver never returned the car despite the owner making several attempts to contact them.

Police say the stolen vehicle is a white Mercedes-Benz convertible featuring a distinctive red interior.

Authorities are currently asking the public to report any sightings of the missing vehicle to help track it down.

Private vehicle sales are highly popular in Finland due to the country’s heavy vehicle taxation system.

Because import taxes make new vehicles expensive, well-maintained used luxury cars like a Mercedes-Benz hold significant value on the local second-hand market.
