Body Recovered from Helsinki Waters During Search for Missing Indian Student

Finnish authorities recovered an unidentified body from the sea in Helsinki on Thursday evening. The discovery was made during an active search for Manideep Reddy Gujja, an 18-year-old Indian student who disappeared from the region in early May.

A diver from the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard located the deceased in the waters of Kruunuvuorenranta. This is a coastal residential neighborhood located in the eastern part of the capital.

The National Bureau of Investigation has been coordinating searches in the area. They were assisted by the Helsinki Police Department and the Coast Guard.

Authorities are currently treating the case as a standard death investigation. Under Finnish administrative procedures, this means police are working to establish the identity of the deceased and the sequence of events without an initial assumption of foul play.

Police stated they do not suspect any criminal activity at this stage.

The search efforts are tied to an Indian national who was studying in Lahti. Lahti is a major city situated about 100 kilometers north of Helsinki.

According to police, the 18-year-old student traveled to the capital region using the Z-train commuter service on Tuesday, May 5. The final confirmed sighting occurred later that evening at a local grocery store in Kruunuvuorenranta.

Investigators have not yet confirmed if the recovered body belongs to the missing student. Forensic examinations will be used to determine the exact cause of death and verify the identity.
